Is yours a Low Carbon School?

Climate East Midlands is on the hunt for good examples of low carbon schools to feature in a new family of case studies. These will be launched at the East Midlands Low Carbon Schools conference on 7th March 2014 at the National College for Teaching and Leadership in Nottingham. If you are a teacher, governor, head, caretaker, bursar, pupil or parent and are proud of your school's efforts to reduce energy, shrink its carbon footprint and save on its energy bills, we'd love to hear from you. Could your school's achievements help to inspire 2,000 other schools in the East Midlands and their communities?

So whether you're a primary, secondary, academy or 6th form college and are new, old or ancient, if you've taken some of these steps, we'd like to know!

• Converted your boiler to wood pellet/woodchip
• Put in extra insulation
• Installed solar panels for hot water or electricity
• Put up a wind turbine
• Changed your lighting to LED
• Have started using smart metering to monitor your useage
• Have installed 'voltage optimisation' or new boiler controls, changed your heating timers or put in draft proofing
• Have you labelled your light switches or done a campaign with your school community to encourage them to use less energy?
• Have children been involved through class work in monitoring usage?
• Have SMT considered how much they could save on the school's fuel bills?
• Have governors approved some new investment?
• Have you attracted investment from outside or had support from your local authority or other organisation?
• Have you engaged the whole school to help them understand how they can tackle climate change?
• Do you have Climate Champions or Energy Heroes?

We'd like to visit those schools in person who have a really good story to tell, to interview those people involved, record and photograph your work and publish the results in the form of a case study (in a similar format to our other case studies).
