Well-Adapting Districts

6th October 2010

A “Well-Adapting Districts” workshop took place on 28th September 2010 with participants from Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. It provided an opportunity for colleagues to share their frustrations and experiences, but also helped to move things forwards, with some helpful theory input from Laurie Newton, UKCIP, about what a Well-Adapting District looks like and some energising input from Tolu Omideyi at Charnwood Borough Council in Leicestershire, who described how her council has managed to make good progress by taking full advantage of the resources provided by the regional Planning to Adapt project.

The afternoon was focused on next steps and support. Full time Climate Change Project Officers, UKCIP and GOEM are available to support progress. Subsequent to this workshop, Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County Councils have agreed to run a joint Adaptation workshop for LSP partners on Tuesday 9th November.

Everyone appeared to leave the workshop in a much more positive frame of mind, helped by seeing a slide from Laurie Newton which illustrated that the East Midlands is a well adapting region compared to other English regions (on NI 188 scores).

Thanks to Laurie, Tolu and all who participated. Please let us know if there's more we can do to help - the offer is open to all Districts.
